A group from Japan, including Japanese Government officials, have visited Wales to learn more about the country’s work on ecological footprinting.

The delegation held a series of meetings, including with the Welsh Government and WWF-Cymru, as part of a research project for improving the monitoring scheme for Japan’s national land use plans.

Ecological Footprint is being considered for one of the new indices and the group decided to visit Wales because is seen as a global leader in the field.

Following the visit, Anne Meikle, Head of WWF Cymru said:

“I was pleased to explain to the group how Wales has developed its use of ecological footprinting and I hope it will help them make use of the technique in Japan. This visit shows how Wales is recognised internationally for taking sustainability seriously. It’s great to see other countries learning from our work to reduce our environmental impact.”
